Although it had been a very mixed year for the weather, the
twenty-eight competitors that entered this years ploughing match on the 17th September, were hoping
that the predicted heavy rain followed by thunder and lightning weather forecast would keep off until their plots
were finished.
However, the heavens opened about twelve O’clock and carried on raining for the afternoon. This was when most of the competitors were finishing their plots.
The field was kindly provided this year by Mr. D. Burge of Itchenstoke Down Farm, which the club appreciate because other local ploughing societies seem to be struggling with finding land to plough.
